Response to Public Consultation on the Significant Water Management Issues for the third cycle River Basin Management Plan for Ireland 2022-2027

As part of our national water management effort under the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD), the third cycle of river basin management planning (RBMP) has begun. This will culminate in the publication of a draft national river basin management plan in December 2020. The step before deciding on this action plan is to clearly identify what issues are facing our rivers, lakes and coast. The Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government recently hosted a public consultation on the significant water management issues (SWMI) for Ireland. This is a crucial process because if the pressures faced by our waterbodies aren’t accurately identified, it will be impossible to determine the appropriate solutions and turn the tide of deterioration. SWAN drafted a substantial submission examining key significant water management issues, view full submission here: http://www.swanireland.ie/swan-response-to-public-consultation-on-the-significant-water-management-issues-for-the-third-cycle-river-basin-management-plan
