Report Water Pollution

If you see water pollution you should either contact Local Authorities in a district where water pollution occurs, Inland Fisheries Ireland which is the state agency responsible for inland fisheries and sea angling in Ireland or Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) which has responsibilities for a wide range of licensing, enforcement, monitoring and assessment activities associated with environmental protection including water. EPA ensures that Ireland’s environment is protected, and monitors changes in environmental trends to detect early warning signs of neglect or deterioration.

It is advisable to read Environmantal Protection Agency’s web page on Making an Environmental Complaint where it says Who to Contact and What to Say and Do.

Under Who to Contact 3 steps are explained:

  1. Step One – Contact the Person or Business Directly
  2. Step Two – Contact the Local Authority
  3. Step Three – Contact the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

Under What to Say and Do EPA has three complaint forms available:

  1. Form C1: Odour from a facility licensed by the EPA
  2. Form C2: A pollution incident other than odour by a facility licensed by the EPA
  3. Form C3: A local authority’s environmental protection responsibilities

EPA also published a brochure how to make an environmental complaint: “See Something, Say Something – How To Make An Environmental Complaint”. You can download it either in English or Irish.

You can also check EPA registers listing all EPA waste licence and IPPC (Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control) licence holders.
