A number of key stakeholders including SWAN were asked to take part in a pre-consultation on the Significant Water Management Issues (SWMI) in Ireland document. The identification of Irelands SWMI is a requirement of the Second Cycle River Basin Management Plans which must be published in accordance with Article 14 of the Water Framework Directive.

The consultation document provides an overview of the current status of our waters. It outlines the challenges ahead in the context of environmental pressures and societal demands and explores the issues around each of these challenges. SWAN made the following submission on the pre-consultation of the SWMI report.
